Eternal You

A Film by Moritz Riesewick & Hans Block

Eternal You Sundance Plakat

Nowadays, it seems, AI is all around us. Many of us, especially in the creative departments, are already feeling the huge societal upheavels, this new technology is causing.

“Eternal You” is mostly concerned with a very particular use of A.I.: Creating the illusion of talking to a dead loved one. Large language models, which are trained on a data-set, gathered out of e-mails and chat-logs of the dead can be made to imitate that person’s way of communicating so that it might feel to the bereaved as if they’re still communicating with a lost one.

The idea, that grief over the loss of a loved one could be exploited financially this way, feels more plausible with every passing day, and is made palpable through this remarkable documentary.

The Soundtrack is another collabboration between myself and Raffael Seyfried, and the result is probably one of my favourite Soundtracks I have ever composed until now. There are so many cool ideas and interesting sounds in there, which blend so well with the imagery and storytelling of the film.

The score features a wide variety of Sounds, ranging from Growled Bass-Recorder, to Lo-Fi Piano recordings on an iPhone, complex ring modulations and various Vocal-Recordings transformed by Tape-Machines, and Synth-Drones reamped through a Ghuzeng among other things.
